Hilaire Belloc examines the five most destructive heretical movements to have affected Christian civilization: Arianism, Mohammedanism (Islam), Albigensianism (Cathar), the Reformation (Protestant), and the modern phase. Belloc describes how these movements began, how they spread, and how they continued to influence the world up until the time of his writing (1936). The chapter on Islam is especially relevant today; in it Belloc accurately predicts the renewal of jihadist aggression towards western civilization.

“He was at his most effective in the 1920s, on the attack against H. G. Wells’s The Outline of History, in which he criticised Wells’ secular bias and his belief in evolution by means of natural selection, a theory that Belloc asserted had been completely discredited.”
lol…
A “great thinker”, eh?

An incredible thinker in fact, wishfire ole pal. The key word there (from your wikipedia research) is “effective”. Belloc was a renowned and pugnacious debater, and in such contention you take a position and come out swinging. If your opponent is proficient enough, or their proposition sufficiently durable, they should easily be able to counter your barbs. Then another tack is ventured.
He was also a profoundly erudite man who, y’know, read books.

Well, if you have an above average scientific literacy level, you know that evolution through natural selection has it’s weak spots mainly in the lack of transitional forms which has been attempted to be explained by “punctuated equilibrium” Daniel Dennet and Richard Dawkins are the two most noteworthy critics of the PE theory. Fact is, we just don’t know. I think it’s a pretty rare set of circumstances that create a fossil which might partially explain the lack of transitional forms.
