Thanks!
I’m an atheist but find religion very fascinating. I’ve listened to a lot of Bart Erhman but it’s nice to get the story from the “inside” as well.

I too while not a believer have always been fascinated by its breath of content, longevity, etc., and sadly have been assailed from all sides when articulating any reference to its dynamism, having resorted to paper-bag book covering…sadly

Tried this but it turned out to be fail. I was hoping for an objective account of the times of the bible in the Greco-Roman world. What they provide is a treatise that starts with faith (I always find this word to be a red flag) in supposed christ their lord as having existed, and then work all logical pathways out from that foregone conclusion. I would like to point out that up until now conclusive scholarship of christ’s existence is scant at best. He may have existed, but then if he did, why is the first written account of his name not seen until 71 A.D. ? It may be much more likely that the jesus figure was contrived out of other stories and mythologies to serve some political purpose of the day that is difficult for post-20th-century minds to grasp. This seems much more likely to me. There were hundreds of upstart religions around this time, Gnosticism, Manicheanism, Canaanite dieties and so forth. The place was a quagmire of religious startups, all competing to hit on the right balance of ingredients. Anyway, didn’t like this one. It read much more like New Testament propaganda woven to satisfy the New Testament believer.
