Format: MP3
Unabridged
For years Bart Ehrman has been routinely bombarded with one question: Did Jesus Exist? As a leading Bible expert, fans and critics alike have sent letters, emails, posted blogs, and questioned Ehrman during interviews wanting his opinion about this nagging question that has become a conspiracy theorist cottage industry the world over. The idea that the character of Jesus was an invention of the early churchs time to put the issue to rest. Yes, the historical Jesus of Nazareth did exist.
Known as a master explainer with deep knowledge of the field, Ehrman methodically demolishes both the scholarly and popular arguments against the existence of Jesus. Marshaling evidence from within the Bible and the wider historical record of the ancient world, Ehrman tackles the key issues that surround the popular mythologies associated with Jesus and the early Christian movement. Throughout Did Jesus Exist? Ehrman establishes the criterion for any genuine historical investigation and provides a robust defense of the methods required to discover the Jesus of history.

Thank you for the upload!
@Malt, are you familiar with Bart D. Ehrman? He is an atheist, a skeptic, and a scholar. It does seem there is adequate evidence for Jesus’s existence and his ministry. Whether or not you ascribe supernatural parentage to him or not is really an area of personal opinion, but I don’t think that’s what this book is addressing.

In fairness to the author, the premise of the book is that Jesus DID in fact exist, as a matter of fact in history. He goes thru the records pretty thoroughly. The question of him being the literal son of god is a matter of faith and conjecture, but history shows that Jesus the man was real.

in response to Tigereye: The stories of jesus’ ministry is reported in multiple gospels, so the evidence is there for a historical figure. However, every gospel is at odds with itself according to what Jesus’ ministry meant and how it happened. This points to a figure that meant something in history but was consumed by what the wants and needs of the general populace wanted. Everyone likes to point to a figurehead to prove their point, so jesus was just that. Sadly its almost impossible to tell what the man actually represented and said. Im only interested in the facts and what actually happened. Ive come to terms with the fact that he wasnt divine, but i still want to know as much as i can about the beginnings of a cultural movement that is still alive today.

What’s interesting here is that Bart is an agnostic who is arguing that Jesus DID in fact exist. I know this must drive nail-biting atheists crazy.

In the study of Religion the approach is called ‘methodological agnosisism”, in other words, whatever the religious convictions of the scholar, they are bracketed out as a bias. Ehrman, as a careful scholar, is trying to make a distinction here between what we can know about the actual man in 1st century Palestine, and the claims made on his behalf by believers. This is a work in the Historical Jesus tradition, which is purely an historical project. The consensus of the overwhelming majority of scholars in this field is that there was such an individual.
